What is it?

Bots visit websites and index the available information and data in the search engine's database. The bots used by search engines serve very useful purposes. However, in addition to these benevolent bots, some bots can also be used maliciously to circumvent restrictions. For this reason, you may need to take active and evolving protection measures against bots that are constantly renewing and evolving.

How does it work?

An army of malicious bots directed at your website can render your system unavailable for service (DoS). In addition, these bots can consume system resources (CPU, RAM, bandwidth, etc.), rendering it dysfunctional and causing problems up to a server crash.

The most important leverage is to increase the cost of sustaining the bot attack for the attacker. Fighting bots used for DoS purposes is simple. One of the network elements handling the traffic (WAF - Web Application Firewall or Load Balancer, etc.) sends a JavaScript Challenge to the bot.
